4th April 2009; Colombo, Sri Lanka: Professor Malik Ranasinghe regarded as an active academic leader with strong intellect and passion towards the development of the knowledge economy in Sri Lanka joined the Advisory Board of Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies, SLASSCOM the unified national IT/BPO industry association.
Professor Ranasinghe is the Vice-Chancellor, University of Moratuwa (UoM) and is a Professor in Civil Engineering. Presently Prof. Ranasinghe is the Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors (CVCD) of Sri Lanka.
“The contribution of Professor Ranasinghe would no doubt strengthen the IT/BPO industry direction. We look forward to close collaboration of industry and academia to ensure that Sri Lanka build a strong and sizable talent pool who is relevant and future ready” said Ranjit Fernando, Chairman of SLASSCOM.
“Industry leaders have recognized the importance of both the public and private sector education in expanding the human resource pool required to ensure that the country's knowledge economy is keeping phase with growth potential” said Professor Malik Ranasinghe. He went on to describe “the goal of creating a vibrant knowledge economy is possible. We should take prompt and bold steps to accelerate the development of the talent pool.”
Professor Ranasinghe is a Fellow Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, Fellow Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Sri Lanka.
Professor Ranasinghe holds a Ph.D. and M.A.Sc. from The University of British Columbia and B.Sc. (Eng.) (Hons.) from University of Moratuwa. He is a Chartered Engineer and International Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
