SLASSCOM holds a webinar on “DevOps Practices in Cloud”, the ninth session of the technical webinar series for undergraduates
DevOps, the amalgamation of development (Dev) and operations (Ops) teams, is an organizational approach that enables faster development of applications and easier maintenance of existing deployments. By enabling organizations to create stronger bonds between Dev, Ops and other stakeholders in the company, DevOps promotes shorter, more controllable iterations through the adoption of best practices, automation and new tools.
With the DevOps adoption growing rapidly, due to the change it brings through greater collaboration between multiple teams such as product, engineering, security, IT and operations as well as automation to better achieve business goals, has led to the increased investment by CTOs and CEOs in this process.
As such, SLASSCOM, as the catalyst for the IT/BPM industry in the country, recently held a series of Technical Webinars for undergraduates through the association’s Regional Development Forum and SLASSCOM Academy, to provide undergraduates the opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s top professionals.
The key intention of these webinars was to train the country’s future talent to fuel business transformation through enabling the cutting-edge technology practices in the company’s they will work in.
As the ninth in this series, a webinar on “DevOps Practices in Cloud” was held on 28th April 2022, featured a tech session on practical ways of using DevOps philosophies, practices and tools with Cloud environments to deliver applications and services at high velocity to better serve customers and compete more effectively in the market.
Providing clarity on the broad spectrum of industry-relevant knowledge and of attractive career opportunities available within the IT/BPM industry in this spectrum of work, the webinar covered a comprehensive curriculum of subject areas from Fundamentals of DevOps, Best practices on DevOps in cloud environments and in providing hands-on examples on implementing CI/CD pipelines in cloud. Each technical session was followed by a post-session evaluation.
The webinar’s Key resource person, industry veteran Manthila Mendis – Cloud Solutions Architect at VitalHub Innovations Lab, who counts over 9 years of industry experience in the software development field and holds a BSc in Computer Systems & Networking, enhanced the participants knowledge on DevOps and on learning how to deliver software the ‘DevOps way’.
SLASSCOM Chairperson Sandra De Zoysa speaking on the ” Technical Webinars for Undergraduates”, stated that SLASSCOM has enabled 3,000+ undergraduates from universities and institutions across all provinces to participate in a series of 12 Technical Webinars covering knowledge on cutting-edge technology. She said that they will continue to harness the country’s future talent through a wide range of live webinars and Q&A sessions with engineers and industry experts to provide participants with the knowledge and hands on experience to successfully build, evolve and operate the latest technologies right through from inception to scaling.
Project Lead for Tech Webinars from the SLASSCOM Regional Forum Isuru Senadheera added that “bridging the gap between the industry expectation and current knowledge and skill level of the future workforce will benefit both undergraduates and industry since it will ensure that fresh graduate could get up to speed faster after they join the industry. Therefore, through this webinar the graduates were guided on acquiring intelligence on the key enablers as well as underlying principles behind the DevOps philosophy, as well as gain insight about the evolution of DevOps, its impact on organizations and how they can accelerate their career growth through ‘DevOps advantage’.
The webinar series was supported by LSEG as the Strategic Sponsor, SLIIT as the Education Partner, Dialog Enterprise and HCL as the Corporate Partner, along with the Knowledge Partners for the series being Infomate, IFS, ISM APAC, Tiqri, Axiata Digital Labs, Wiley, WNS, H Connect International, VitalHub Innovations Lab and SimCentric.
